Greater Pittsburgh Lunar New Year Gala, January 21, 2023.


The Greater Pittsburgh Lunar New Year Gala will be held on January 21, 2023 at the PNC Theater at Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse.
Greater Pittsburgh Lunar New Year Gala is the best performing arts show for Lunar New Year celebration in greater Pittsburgh area! Come and Join us to celebrate coming Year of Rabbit, which will be held on Saturday, January 21st, 2023 from 7PM to 9PM in Pittsburgh Playhouse, PNC Theater.
 
The gala will include world renowned and awarded Master of Arts and Crafts as follows.
 
  • Xiang “Sean” Gao, Violinist: Named as Musical America’s Top 30 Professionals of the Year in 2021, Xiang “Sean” Gao is one of the world’s most successful presenters, producers, composers, and pedagogues. He has solo performed violin with 100 plus orchestras worldwide. As the University of Delaware Trustees Distinguished Professor, Xiang conceptualized and composed Shanghai Sonatas the new musical that is being developed by Broadway producers. 

  • Jonny Blu 藍強, Singer: As professional singer, songwriter and music producer, he was the first ever non-Chinese artist to sign with a Chinese music label (See Music, Ltd.) in Hong Kong and he went on to achieve pop music stardom in the Chinese music world, with three top ten hit songs and a win of "Hot New Artist” at the 2005 Hong Kong Metro Music Awards. In blockbuster Disney film, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, Jonny sang "Miracles Happen" in Mandarin Chinese and received an RIAA-certified gold record for sales of over 800,000 copies.

  • Peng Li, Magician: Known as one of the most famous Chinese master magician, Peng Li was given high praise for his magic performance of face changing which is one of his most difficult performances.

  • Matthew Brower, Pianist: Hailed as “superb” by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Matthew Brower is a pianist, coach, and educator who brings vision and sensitivity to a variety of genres, from classical piano, chamber music, opera, and art song to musical theatre and jazz.

  • Xiaolin Tong, Peking Opera master: As one of the best Peking Opera performing artists, Xiaolin Tong shoulders the mission of inheriting and promoting Peking Opera in US. She regularly performs in various educational and cultural venues such as Chinese American Community Centers and University campuses and Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, etc.

  • Yimin Xue, Singer: Graduated from Berklee College of Music Voice principle, Yimin Xue is one of the most popular young singers in US and China. She is Bronze medalist of Supernona Singing Contest, first in Singing Category of Sinovision’s “Teens Talent Show, and American Top 10 of “The Voice of China” etc.

 
The gala is organized by Pittsburgh Chinese Cultural Center (PCCC), and is directed by Yanlai Wu, president of Yanlan Dance Academy, and Ying Zhang, director of PCCC Art Group. The Pittsburgh Chinese Cultural Center (PCCC) is a non- profit organization in Pennsylvania that promotes the awareness of Chinese culture and appreciation of cultural diversity, facilitates assimilation of Chinese immigrants into the Pittsburgh community and supports relations between Pittsburgh and China.
