
The University of Pittsburgh's Filipino Student Association will present its annual Barrio on March 28, which will feature a performance by pop/R&B artist RC AVENUE. It runs from 5:00 to 9:00 pm in the Assembly Room on the first floor of the William Pitt Union (map). From the Asian Studies Center newsletter:
“Barrio” means neighborhood or community in Tagalog. Pitt FSA’s Barrio event shares and celebrates Filipino culture through special guest performances, delicious Filipino food, singing & dancing, and more!Barrio will feature special guest RC AVENUE. They are a Pop/R&B artist based in Los Angeles with over 200k monthly listeners on Spotify.
The theme is Alamat, meaning “legend” or “folklore” in Tagalog. Alamat honors the stories that connect generations and communities, celebrating Filipino heritage while also recognizing the shared experiences and stories of those at Pitt.
Dress theme will be Traditional Filipino cultural attire (modern/precolonial), cultural mythology, or fairytale-inspired dress.
